Zoe's corner: A new crown for Zoe

Queen Zoe had accidentally flushed her crown down the loo.

"What can I do?" she cried. "Without my crown, no-one will know I am the queen. I feel more ordinary already." Zoe’s crown was a symbol of her status – it set her apart from ordinary people and showed everyone that she was the ruler of the land.

She also happened to be the most talented, the smartest, the most polite, and of course the most beautiful girl in the kingdom, but that was a coincidence. "I need a new crown right now!" she declared.

The new crown must be precious metal (gold and silver are Zoe’s favourites) and it should be decorated with jewels. The crown’s decorations symbolise Zoe’s special bond with the land she rules – perhaps sapphires for the sea, diamonds for the starry sky and emeralds for the trees. You might have some other ideas for decorations too…

Step by step:

Image of step 1

1. Print out the crown templates, cut out the shapes and stick them together to make your crown pattern.

Image of step 2

2. Sticky-tape the pattern to the back of a sheet of card. Cut out the main crown shape with scissors, and the inside shapes with a craft or stanley knife.

3. Cut out decorative motifs from coloured and metallic paper shapes, or use beads, crystals, glitter or flowers to decorate your crown.

4. Cut out a band of card about 3cm wide and 50cm long. Fit it to your head and staple the ends together. Trim off the excess cardboard.

5. Place some sticky-tape over the staples to protect your skin from scratches.
