Print instructions & templates
Make your own traditional Easter decorations.
You will need:
a large needle
thin ribbon (or cotton, or coloured string)
eggs (room temperature)
food dye
glass bowl
newspaper to protect workbench
decorations eg glitter, jewels and ribbons
skewers and/or a spoon
vinegar
wear old clothes and rubber gloves
Step by step:
1. A hard boiled egg can be used for this activity for small children.
2. To blow an egg make a hole in both ends with a large needle. Pierce the yolk so it’s easier to blow. The egg should be room temperature. Wash & leave to dry.
3. In a bowl, mix a teaspoon of vinegar with food grade dye. Using a spoon or skewer, keep the egg moving until it is the desired colour.
4. Stick the skewer all the way through and lay them over a bowl to dry.
5. You can rub the eggs with a little olive oil and kitchen paper to shine them up. Wipe off well. Decorate with glitter, jewels, ribbon and glue or paints.
6. For blown eggs: Use a large needle to thread the two ends of ribbon through the egg to form a loop. Tie off the ends. Thread beads on for extra decoration.
